WASO World Championships

The World All Styles Organisation (WASO) World Championships was held on the Gold Coast from 30 June to 2 July 2006. While we had 4 Members from the Kickboxing Club qualify for the World Titles, none of them could make it to the tournament due to other commitments or financial constraints.

Kacey Chong attended the tournament as the Assistant Technical Director for Victoria, gained her International Accreditation as an International Judge and Referee, and was kept busy refereeing throughout the tournament.

The Finals were held on Sunday 2 July – there was only one ring operating and all the attention was focused on that centre ring. The pressure on the Officials to make the right calls was just as high as that placed on the competitors. Only the most experienced Officials were chosen to officiate at the Finals, and Kacey was selected to judge and referee at the Finals.

Following her success at the World Titles, Kacey received a promotion to Technical Director for Victoria the day after the tournament, and will now be responsible for running Australian Referees Board (ARB) Seminars to train NAS judges and referees on the application and interpretation of tournament rules. At the tournaments, Kacey’s role is to two-fold – one as a senior judge and referee in the ring - and the other as a Marshall who oversees the performance of the Officials, ensures that the tournament rules are correctly and fairly applied, and resolves any disputes from coaches and parents.
