NAS Results for Round 3 Now Posted on NAS Website

Jacob Chylinski, Marianna Tassakos, and Bryan Wicaksono represented the Monash University Kickboxing Club at NAS Round 3 on Sun 24 July.

NAS has published these results for Round 3 on their website last week with 1st, 2nd and 3rd placings for each division.

The NAS also did an Official Profile on me, which is on the same webpage as the Round 3 Tournament Results. This is the article:

"Kacey Chong was a competitor at NAS tournaments before she was asked to become an official, a job she has now performing well for five years. The 23 year-old has been involved with martial arts most of her life including traditional taekwondo as well as sport and Olympic taekwondo, and has a 2nd degree Black belt.

She formed the Monash University Kickboxing Club and is its Chief Instructor. Currently, close to 50 students attend the class each week. Kacey enjoys teaching and encourages students to follow the club’s mission statement, ‘To empower people through martial arts.’

As far as officiating goes, she likes being part of the environment. “I like to see different styles come together and show good sportsmanship and fighting spirit,” she says. On the other hand, Kacey agrees that sometimes it can be a bit pressured when the spectators get a little agitated and are yelling too much at the ring, but it’s all part of the day. Kacey has also judged at the Nationals, and says, “It’s a great atmosphere with all the states going up against each other, there’s a lot more team spirit.”

She is looking forward to the coming rounds at NAS and her main focus is to continue teaching martial arts and get as much enjoyment out of it as possible."

I hope those of you who have competed at the NAS will also move on to officiate at the NAS as you become more experienced in competition and one day achieve your Black Shirts. It will give you a valuable insight to the competition and you will gain a lot more respect for the difficult job that Judges and Referees have to do. This will also be an opportunity for you to give back to the Martial Arts community, as you have no doubt gained a lot personally from training in the Martial Arts.

Finally, we look forward to supporting Marianna Tassakos at the State Championships on 16 October - more details to come.

Kacey Chong.
