NAS Round 4 - Results

Ju-Lin Lee, Marianna Tassakos, and Eli Yarrow represented the Monash University Kickboxing Club at NAS Round 4 on Sun 11 Sept.

Marianna showed good variety of offense and defense, and placed 3rd in the Female Novice Point Sparring Division. She will most likely qualify for the State Championships on Sun 16 Oct.

While Ju-Lin didn't place in her divisions, she demonstrated very good technique in the Continuous Sparring, and great ringcraft, slipping and bobbing & weaving effectively. Her opponent had a huge reach advantage, and Ju-Lin would have done better by standing her ground and side-stepping, instead of moving back. It was a great experience for Ju-Lin and she'll be back at the NAS next year, aiming to improve her performance.

Eli went out hard & fast and was aggressive in his Continuous Sparring. However, he ran out of steam towards the end, and needs to work on fitness, technique and lighter footwork. All of Eli's opponents were significantly taller than him, and he found it difficult to get in close enough to score in the Point Sparring. Nevertheless, he had heart and showed good sportsmanship, and we hope he continues to develop his skills.

Overall, it was a good day of competition, and all our competitors gained valuable experience that will serve them in their Martial Arts training.

Update - Interclub Challenge

I had planned to enter Vinh Nugyen into the Interclub Challenge on 16 September to represent the Kickboxing Club. However, Vinh has torn a ligament in his left shoulder during training and it will take 6 to 8 weeks to heal. We hope he makes a full recovery and will fight at a future Interclub Challenge.

Those of you who want to fight at the Interclubs should still attend and watch the competition.
