New Equipment - Thanks To You!
Comparatively speaking, Kickboxing training is very equipment intensive. We use different types of equipment to aid our training. For example, focus mitts are used as targets to work on technique, accuracy, coordination and reflexes, and punching bags are used to work power and distancing, etc.
Those of you who have just joined the Kickboxing Club this year have been fortunate to walk into a Club that provides you with all the equipment you need - focus mitts, bag gloves, Muay Thai pads, punching bag, speedball, floor-to-ceiling ball, skipping ropes, 16 oz. boxing gloves, different types of headgear, shin pads, hand mitts, and more...but it hasn't always been this way.
In the beginning, we didn't have any of our own equipment, and had to borrow most of it from our Parent Association, the A.I.M. Academy. It was not until we started putting on fundraising events that we were able to buy our own equipment.
As you will appreciate, our training equipment is very important for your development, and this stuff doesn't just fall out of the sky or appear magically.
We have organised two fundraising events so far this year - our BBQ on campus and the Movie Night where many of you went to watch the Muay Thai movie, Ong Bak.
Thank you to all of you who took part in these two events, as you have cheerfully contributed to the Club's ability to buy new training equipment for you. I'm happy to announce that we now have 10 brand spanking new Kickshields for your use in class!
I hope you will continue to support your Club and take part in future fundraising events, so you can help make your Club the best Martial Arts Club at Monash University!
